Mountaintop’s Parent-Infant Community is a weekly program for parents and their infants (up to 18 months). Parents learn to observe, understand, respect and enjoy the individuality of their own and other infants. In this carefully designed space, they experience the joy of mastering new tasks.
Today’s parents of babies are in greater need of support than ever before. They feel tremendous pressure to do it all and to get everything right. They have less extended family nearby to help, and they are flooded with contradictory advice: Breast-feed. Wean abruptly. Wean gradually to start solids at birth. Feed according to the clock. Feed according to demand. Sleep with the infant in their bed. Let him sleep alone in his room. Pull out the thumb. Give a pacifier. Don't give a pacifier. Or do both. Or do neither!
Our Parent-Infant Community is led by our toddler class guide, Alissa McKown. She is trained as a Montessori guide for children from birth through age 3. Alissa has worked with infants, toddlers, and their parents for many years. She is also a parent of two Mountaintop students who are in Middle School and Lower Elementary.
