Butterfly Ball FAQ

  • What is the Butterfly Ball? The Butterfly Ball is Mountaintop’s lively Annual Auction and Gala event. More than just a fun party, it is an opportunity for parents, staff, and friends to celebrate the year and support our school!
  • Who is invited to attend? Every adult who wants to support Mountaintop while having a great time! You are encouraged to invite friends from Mountaintop and beyond. This year, the Butterfly Ball takes place the day after Grandparents and Special Friends Day. It is our hope that parents will either bring grandparents with them to the ball or ask them to grandchild-sit to free parents up to attend.
  • What happens at the Butterfly Ball? The evening has three segments.
    • First: a cocktail hour with appetizers, Gift Card Plinko, and Silent Auction. The Silent Auction includes classroom art projects, experiences hosted by staff members, items from Mountaintop Family businesses, and more.
    • Second: a live auctioneer will invite everyone to gather for a game of Heads-or-Tails before beginning the always exciting Live Auction and Paddle Raise.
    • Third: Dessert and dancing!
  • What should I wear? Whatever makes YOU sparkle! This may not be a satisfying answer, but there will truly be a range of (in)formality and no one will be out of place. Many attendees use this event as an excuse to dress up and will be in date night or cocktail attire, others will be in jeans. Some attendees will lean hard into the theme to the point of camp, others will avoid it entirely, and everything in between. Wear what you want!
  • What is included with my ticket? Your ticket includes delicious appetizers and dessert provided by The Local, drinks (beer, wine, a signature cocktail/mocktail, soft drinks), and entertainment including live music by Stillhouse Sound, participation in Heads-or-Tails, a photo station, and a glitter artist.
  • What are the “games”?
    • Gift Card Plinko – attendees pay $25 for each chance at Plinko; there’s a winner every time with gift cards valued at $10-300 for prizes.
    • Heads-or-Tails – Exactly as it sounds. We flip a coin. If you think it will be heads you put your hand in the air, tails you keep it down. If you are correct, you stay in for the next round. We play until we have a single winner who will be crowned and gifted a VIP prize. Heads-or-Tails is a free game this year with no light up trinket required to play.
    • Golden Ticket – We will be selling a limited number of raffle tickets for $100. We will draw a winner right before the Live Auction begins and the winner gets to select any single Live Auction item as their prize and remove it from the auction.
  • What is the Paddle Raise? The Paddle Raise is an opportunity for members of our community to raise their paddle to make a gift toward a specific campus project. Past paddle raises have funded picnic tables around campus, the construction of the Christy’s PALS amphitheater, and staff training and development.
  • What will the Paddle Raise fund this year? This year’s Paddle Raise will strengthen the resilience and enrichment of our outdoor learning environments, including the purchase of shade-bearing trees to beautify and cool our campus.
  • Do I have to participate in the auctions and paddle raise? The best part of the night is having you there. While participation in the auctions and paddle raise is entirely optional, these activities are a meaningful way to contribute to Mountaintop’s mission if you feel inspired to do so. Whether you join in the bidding or simply enjoy the evening, we’re thrilled to have you with us!
  • Where do I park? Parking is available in all three parking lots (Main, Children’s House, Middle School). You are also encouraged to take an uber/lyft.
  • I cannot make it to the event. Can I support from home? Of course!
    • The Silent Auction will open for bidding on Monday, April 21. It is all online, so you can bid on great items from anywhere.
    • The Live Auction and Paddle Raise happen live, but you can reach out to Sarah (sreedy@mounatintopmontessori.org) to coordinate a proxy to bid on your behalf.
    • Mountaintop staff are invited to attend the ball for free. Consider purchasing a staff ticket to offset this cost.
  • How else can I support the Butterfly Ball? There are many ways to get involved!
    • Volunteer – the planning committee can use support to solicit donations and/or pick up donations in advance of the event and support in the days before the ball to transform the gym into a sparkling event space.
    • Sponsor – offset the cost of the event so more money goes to the school. Email the Parent Association at PA@mountaintopmontessori.org for more information.
